Six Leeds United contract calls looming on 2027 deals

Leeds United have six senior outfielders whose 2027 deals enter their final year in July. Three goalkeepers also expire this summer, but longer-term choices are coming into focus.

Leeds Live notes that those players can talk to overseas clubs from January if no extensions are agreed. For some the route looks clear, others may need patience or value protection.

Extending Ethan Ampadu looks straightforward. The 25-year-old captain knits Leeds together and his absence weakens the side. European interest could grow, strengthening the case to protect his value.

The opposite seems true for Joel Piroe. Despite aiding last season's promotion, he is fourth, arguably fifth, with Noah Okafor and Brenden Aaronson preferred in the second striker role. Omitted against Birmingham City, a renewal looks unlikely unless Leeds return to the Championship, and even then he might not stay.

Brenden Aaronson's outlook has shifted. A clear no three months ago now feels less certain after recent displays, and Daniel Farke is an admirer. Whether this is a purple patch or a rise will decide timing.

Pascal Struijk drew summer interest yet stayed, starting all but three available Premier League games this season. Farke classed him among the core to keep and the back-three switch makes him important. Summer bids or a new centre-half could force earlier talks if United stay up.

Lukas Nmecha's seven goals in a debut campaign still in progress is an excellent return. Given his two-year deal, likely shaped by past injuries, a second-season view makes sense. Signed for nothing, he merits keeping if form and fitness hold.

Ilia Gruev has started the past eight league games after beginning as fifth-choice behind Sean Longstaff, Ao Tanaka and Anton Stach, with Ampadu nailed on. His work-rate and consistency have earned trust, highlighted by sublime assists against Nottingham Forest. With a summer midfield addition probable, his role and any renewal may be assessed later.
