Southampton are exploring midfield additions and have been linked with Manchester United prospect Dan Gore. According to OnTheMinute, the Saints are competing for the youngster, with the shape of any deal still unclear.
They have already tapped the loan market, bringing in Divin Mubama from Manchester City. His late cameo at Watford was quiet, yet expectations remain after five Championship goals on loan at Stoke City last term.
Mubama and Cyle Larin lead the line. Cameron Archer and Damion Downs are likely to be moved on before the window shuts, while Eckert’s staff want midfield depth before September’s cut-off.
The report adds Celtic are keen, with Sheffield United and Swansea City also interested. Whether loan or permanent is unclear, though a clean break from his boyhood club might appeal.
His senior loans have been mixed, two spells at Rotherham bringing one goal and four assists, plus only one outing at Port Vale. Cameron Bragg once underwhelmed at Crawley, yet now plays regularly for Eckert and logged an assist at Watford.
Eckert’s work with youngsters could appeal to the four-time England U20 international, described as a leader by United youth coach Mark Dempsey. Gore has 17 goal contributions for United’s U18s and U21s, and could help plug the Shea Charles-shaped gap if he translates that form. An average of five point three duels won at Rotherham highlights a raw, combative profile, and he was allegedly on Middlesbrough’s list this month.
