Cyle Larin’s Southampton stay could become permanent, with a £3.4m obligation to buy in his loan from Mallorca set to trigger if the club win promotion this season, The Sun reports.
The 31-year-old Canadian has eight goals in nine starts since arriving in January, leaving him three behind joint top scorers Adam Armstrong and Finn Azaz.
Even if promotion is not achieved, the option to buy would remain in place and Southampton would be keen to activate it.
The development adds extra incentive as the play-offs loom, and a permanent move would take him away from Spain, where he appears unwanted.
Larin has proved an astute addition, offering a similar focal point to Ross Stewart and adding another dimension to the Saints’ attack. Against Middlesbrough in the play-offs, who will force Southampton to play long, his hold-up play will be key.
He has also been prolific, posting a league-best goals-per-90 rate of 0.84 among players with over 800 minutes in the 2025/26 Championship.
When he joined on deadline day in February, with Southampton mid-table, he said he thought seven points to the play-offs was nothing, that the Championship changes fast, and that on paper Southampton were outplaying many teams. His start has backed up that confidence.
