According to Sainstmarching.com, six Southampton players have been called up for international duty during the Championship’s three-week pause. After Saturday’s trip to Wrexham, their next league match is the South Coast derby against Portsmouth on 11 October at St Mary’s.

Cyle Larin leads Canada’s squad after seven goals in seven Championship games. The 94-time international, set to be given the key to his birthplace Brampton during the break, could face Chile, Peru and the United States. With Pompey up days after that US friendly, there is a slight worry over knocks, though he will hope to return unscathed.

Kuryu Matsuki has received his first senior Japan call-up. The former FC Tokyo attacker recently scored his first Championship goal against Bristol City and has impressed on the right. Japan meet Uruguay, Venezuela and Ecuador, and he will hope for minutes on debut.

Ryan Manning and Finn Azaz remain in the Republic of Ireland squad, with 37 caps between them. It is their first involvement together since March, and Azaz chases a second international goal after seven Championship goal contributions. Ireland face Kosovo, Israel, Austria and Israel again in Nations League Group D, and Manning will want to feature after missing the North Macedonia game.

Daniel Peretz is in Israel’s squad and is set to face Ireland twice. The former Bayern Munich goalkeeper has 12 caps since debuting against Cyprus in 2022, kept a clean sheet last time out in a 1-0 win over Albania, but none yet this Championship season. Israel also play Austria and Kosovo.

Romeo Akachukwu is the only U21 call-up at the time of writing, with the midfielder in Jim Crawford’s Republic of Ireland U21 group. He scored in Southampton’s 2-0 EFL Cup win at Colchester, has two caps at this level and will aim to impress as qualifying resumes. Fixtures bring Slovakia, England and Kazakhstan.
