According to L'Équipe, Girondins de Bordeaux’s players, staff and employees have now been paid their July wages, with Sparta Capital and Park Bench funding the payout and pledging to cover August salaries too.
Wages had gone unpaid since the end of June.
The money was transferred to the club’s account this afternoon. The July sum was split equally between Sparta Capital, the British investment fund bidding to buy the club, and Park Bench, the American fund backing Sparta Capital.
On Saturday in Chauray, after a 2-1 friendly defeat, Dominique Delport, the presumed future club president, promised the squad that July salaries would be settled.
Delport said they were encouraged when a judge permitted the July payments, and that players and employees are working hard to ensure the club is ready if it is authorised to remain in National 1. He added that the previous non-payment was astonishing and that settling wages mattered for the institution.
