Alain Giresse has backed the proposed Bordeaux takeover and urged football authorities to save the club. "Yes, I support this takeover project," he said, speaking to Ici Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
Bordeaux are currently excluded from the national competitions, a decision confirmed by the DNCG appeals commission on 15 July. A takeover plan has since revived hope.
The bid is led by Sparta Capital with a 10.6 million euro injection. Gérard Lopez ceded his shares on 31 July for a symbolic one euro, waiving his claims and his return-to-better-fortune clause.
"Having spoken with the prospective owners, this is serious and the foundations seem sound to me," said the 1984 European champion. "Their project is above all to get going again, and to do that they must meet the requirements of the DNCG, the CNOSF or the FFF's Comex."
On Friday the CNOSF conciliator advised upholding the DNCG decision to exclude the club, and Dominique Delport, set to become president if the sale completes, intends to turn to the administrative court. "Once the financial conditions are met and the requirements are satisfied, of course I appeal to the authorities," said Giresse. "They have the details today. The money is there".
