Sunderland complete signing of French prospect Dayann Methalie | OneFootball

Sunderland have completed the signing of highly-rated French defender Dayann Methalie from Toulouse on a long-term contract, with the 20-year-old becoming the club’s second arrival of the summer.

Methalie, who came through Toulouse’s academy, broke into the first team last season and made his Ligue 1 debut against Nice in August 2025.

He quickly established himself as an important member of the squad, making 31 appearances in all competitions as Toulouse finished ninth in the league and reached the semi-finals of the French Cup.

The 6ft 2in left-back is already a France Under-21 international, having made four appearances and scored twice for his country at that level.

Sunderland faced competition from clubs across Europe, including Premier League sides, but secured the highly-rated defender on a long-term deal.

Methalie is regarded as one of the brightest young prospects in French football and combines physical strength with technical ability.
