Sunderland have completed the signing of left-back Dayann Methalie from Toulouse. The France under-21 international joins on a long-term contract and will wear shirt number six.
According to NY Times, the 20-year-old moves in a package worth €30m and becomes the club’s second summer arrival after Thomas Meunier in July.
Methalie said he is excited to join, having followed Sunderland’s seventh-placed finish and Europa League qualification last season, and that the chance to come was an easy decision. He added he is eager to play in the Premier League and Europa League with the club’s supporters and to help the team continue to progress.
He came through Toulouse’s academy from 2014, was promoted to the first team in summer 2025 and made his Ligue 1 debut that August. He ended 2025-26 with 30 appearances, scoring two goals and providing two assists, and was often used at left wing-back in Carles Martinez’s three-four-three.
Methalie has represented France at under-19, under-20 and under-21 levels, most recently facing the Faroe Islands in November 2025. Sunderland begin their Premier League campaign against Ipswich Town on Saturday.
