Sunderland fans laud 1937-inspired Hummel home kit as collar, crest and black socks draw praise | OneFootball

Sunderland supporters have given a warm reception to the club’s home kit inspired by the 1937 FA Cup-winning side after Tuesday’s unveiling. According to Sunderland Echo, the Hummel release goes on sale at eight am on Wednesday.

Red and white stripes are matched with a button-up collar, a retro crest and black shorts and socks. Those heritage touches dominated early reaction online, with some already calling it one of Hummel’s best since the brand returned to Wearside.

Chris Liddle praised the club and Hummel for honouring history, calling the outcome magnificent. Charl waxed lyrical about the badge, collar and black socks, labelling the look a masterpiece. The pop-button collar drew repeated praise, including from Tom Wilcock and Jake Collinson.

UnderTheLight suggested it might edge the recent Championship home shirt as their favourite. Lewis’ Football Media went further, saying it is top class and will be an all-time classic. The return of black shorts and socks was widely welcomed, with one account predicting the kit will look superb under the lights against Italian teams.

Some fans linked the design to Sunderland’s return to European football and the club’s recent retro releases, hoping for good luck in the Premier League and in Europe. Others had reservations, with Nelios arguing the crest should have matched the 1937 original in blue, and David preferring last season’s kits and disliking the pink top.
