According to Sunderland Echo, Sunderland are aligning late-window business around a potential goalkeeper reshuffle, with Anthony Patterson’s situation and Jonas Omlin talks creating a domino effect.

Millwall are in advanced discussions over a loan for the 25-year-old, but any move depends on Sunderland bringing in a replacement. Patterson has been told he can leave once cover is secured.

Despite starring in last season’s promotion, Patterson has not featured in the Premier League this term. Robin Roefs has taken the number one shirt, leaving Patterson on the fringes.

Sunderland have held productive talks with Borussia Monchengladbach regarding Switzerland international Omlin. The 32-year-old has 18 months left on his deal, is open to a new challenge, and lost the captaincy and starting role ahead of this season.

He previously played for Basel and Montpellier and has four senior Switzerland caps. Sunderland see him as an experienced number two who could provide immediate competition and cover.

If Omlin arrives, the landscape changes, making a Patterson exit likelier before the window shuts. Millwall lead the chase, while other Championship sides are monitoring and could pursue loan or permanent options.

Millwall prefer a loan, but Sunderland will seek to protect their position with any conditions agreed. Le Bris and sporting director Kristjaan Speakman are intent on avoiding unnecessary risk during the run-in.

With the deadline looming, Sunderland’s goalkeeping call could define their late business. If no signing materialises, Sunderland are expected to retain their current structure.
