Ethan Moore says he has moved on mentally and physically from long-term knee trouble as he builds minutes in the National League.
The 21-year-old suffered a knee injury in March 2023. “I am definitely moving towards where I want to be. I feel like I’ve moved on mentally and physically now and I’m just looking forwards,” he told Sunderland Echo.
After 887 days out, he returned in August for Sunderland Under-21s, coming on for the final half-hour in a 3-2 defeat at Southampton, and featured 17 times before the turn of the year.
He then joined Gateshead in January and has seven outings under Rob Elliot, most recently from the bench in Tuesday’s 3-1 home win over National League title contenders York City.
“I just want to play as many minutes as I can and show everyone what I can do.”
Gateshead’s revival has gathered pace, with only two defeats in their last 11 lifting them from 11 points adrift six weeks ago to outside the relegation zone before Saturday’s home meeting with fellow strugglers Yeovil Town.
The club are marking Non-League Day, the supporters society targeting 2,000 and ticket prices cut by up to 20%. “If you come down you’ll see good quality. We need that support here because we still have a lot of work to do so it would be great to see supporters getting down here on Saturday and getting behind us.”
