Habib Diarra and Chemsdine Talbi came on at half-time. Dan Ballard landed heavily, looked to jar collarbone and wrist, continued, then was replaced by Jenson Seelt, with Wilson Isidor on for Brobbey and Chris Rigg introduced on the right.

Rigg immediately supplied Hume for 1-0. Late on Talbi burst down the left and found Isidor for an improvised second, with Timur Tutierov also getting minutes. Sunderland were organised and aggressive out of possession, and Robin Roefs was only seriously tested once.
