Sunderland ‘to sign’ Lucas Bergvall? Reports dismissed | OneFootball

Reports of a full agreement for Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall to join Sunderland are understood to be wide of the mark, and no deal has been agreed.

Football Insider reported that the Black Cats had submitted an offer before striking a deal, with Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest also credited with an interest.

Bergvall, 20, joined Spurs from Djurgården in 2024 and later signed a long-term contract running to 2031, leaving the London club in a strong position to negotiate.

Valued at around £50m, the Sweden international can operate across central midfield and is regarded as one of his country’s most promising young players.

Such a move would be highly ambitious for Régis Le Bris’s side and would appear to fit Sunderland’s age-profiled recruitment model.

Thomas Meunier is the only senior arrival so far, with Florent Ghisolfi indicating a more measured window after last summer’s overhaul, and further quality expected before the deadline.
