Sven Bender is set to join Jürgen Klopp’s Germany coaching staff, Bild claims. With Klopp’s appointment as national coach nearing completion, the 59-year-old has reportedly started shaping his backroom team.

Alongside long-time assistants Peter Krawietz and Pepijn Lijnders, there is set to be an additional appointment, with the former Borussia Dortmund and Germany midfielder expected to take a role.

The 37-year-old left his post as head coach of fourth-tier SpVgg Unterhaching at the start of the month.

Klopp and Bender worked together at Dortmund, where the midfielder was part of the side that won the Bundesliga title in 2011. The team completed a domestic double a year later.

Before moving to Unterhaching, Bender served as an assistant under Edin Terzić and Nuri Şahin at Dortmund.

Klopp is expected to be officially confirmed as Germany’s new head coach later this week.
