There are ten injury issues for the clash between Charlton Athletic and Southampton at The Valley this weekend.
One of the most intriguing encounters in the Championship this weekend, as we return from the November international break, comes at The Valley as surprise promotion contenders Charlton Athletic take on surprise strugglers Southampton.
Following their promotion via the League One play-offs last season, Charlton have done exceptionally well so far this season with the same level of grit and determination instilled in them by Nathan Jones showing that they can be more than competitive in the second-tier.
The pre-season expectations would have been to ensure survival but, approaching a third of the way into the campaign, the Addicks sit just a couple of points outside of the top six and the play-off places.
Southampton, on the other hand, have endured a tough opening couple of months with their humiliating relegation from the Premier League compounded by having to sack Will Still early on this season as the Saints languish towards the relegation zone.
However, with interim coach Tonda Eckert still at the helm, they had found a bit of form before the break with back-to-back victories against Queens Park Rangers and then crisis club Sheffield Wednesday.
As the two sides now clash in south London on the back of their surprising starts, FLW takes a look at the players who are set to be unavailable for the clash.

Former Luton Town defender Reece Burke had begun to find some form for the Addicks after his move in the summer but the centre-back suffered a foot injury a few weeks ago and is now missing for the visit of Southampton.

It was confirmed in mid-October that former Dunfermline Athletic full-back Josh Edwards underwent surgery on an ankle injury. He is working his way back to full fitness with the surgery having said to have sped up the process but he remains sidelined.

Last season’s top scorer for Charlton, former Coventry City striker Matty Godden, has been missing for a while due to a knee injury that required surgery. He is working his way back but this weekend still comes too soon.

Having joined for a fee of up to £5 million from QPR in the summer, last season’s League One top scorer, whilst on loan at Leyton Orient, missed the last couple of games before the international break and he is set to remain sidelined for this one.

Having struggled for rhythm and fluency so far this season, striker Cameron Archer is now sidelined for Saints as he deals with an ankle injury, sustained against Blackburn Rovers last month.

Youngster Cam Bragg is one of a number of players to have made debuts for Southampton this season but the midfielder is now dealing with a hamstring issue.

Northern Ireland international Shea Charles has been a key man for a poor Southampton side but, like Bragg, he is unavailable due to a hamstring injury and he missed Northern Ireland’s recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Slovakia and Luxembourg.

Having tried to force through a move to Club Brugge in the summer, Samuel Edozie has been on the periphery at St Mary’s so far this season and he is now missing due to a hamstring injury.

In mid-October, it was confirmed by former boss Still that summer signing Elias Jelert suffered a quad injury that should see him sidelined for four to six weeks and so he is expected back soon but not this weekend.

hamstring and tendon injury against Derby County last month.
