Nottingham Forest’s post-promotion recruitment has been a mixed bag. With 79 arrivals since 2022, attention now turns to the 20 that worked least well.
According to Nottingham Post, the rundown is set out in descending order and invites supporters to judge for themselves.
Some never kicked a ball. David Carmo and Loic Bade made no competitive appearance, injuries kept Omar Richards sidelined, and Hwang Ui-jo left after loans without playing.
Several loans stalled through injury or limited impact. Gio Reyna’s spell offered only flashes, Nuno Tavares and Oleksandr Zinchenko were curbed by injuries and defensive concerns, Andrey Santos played only 96 minutes before returning to Chelsea, and Gonzalo Montiel’s pedigree did not translate. Douglas Luiz could not reproduce his Aston Villa form and his Juventus loan was cut short.
In goal, Odysseas Vlachodimos struggled, he was in net for the 5-0 defeat at Fulham and later formed part of the deal that brought Elliot Anderson. Carlos Miguel’s brief run included a costly FA Cup error at Exeter City before injury, and Matt Turner’s tenure was punctuated by mistakes.
Up front, promise rarely became product. Divock Origi failed to seize chances, Andre Ayew offered little, Emmanuel Dennis was an inconsistent £20 million buy, and Lorenzo Lucca scored on debut against Leeds United but did not solve the problem. Jesse Lingard arrived on a free yet delivered scant returns, while Josh Bowler was loaned out, then left permanently. Jonjo Shelvey’s error at Aston Villa in April 2023 proved his final act.
