The 2025 summer transfer window closed with a bang on 1 September, as Premier League clubs shattered previous spending records by splashing out over £3 billion.
Unsurprisingly, Deadline Day itself provided a whirlwind of activity. Headline-grabbing moves included Alexander Isak’s British record switch to Liverpool and Yoane Wissa completing his move to Newcastle United with 30 seconds left on the clock.
Ultimately, this was a window dominated by high-stakes striker acquisitions and major squad overhauls across the league, as evidenced by the dearest deals listed below.
Manchester United made a significant move by securing Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. The deal, worth up to £71m with add-ons, represents a major coup for the club.
The 25-year-old Cameroonian forward was in high demand after contributing a combined 20 goals and assists last season, with Spurs and Newcastle also linked. He has signed a five-year deal to bolster United’s attack during their ongoing rebuild.
In addition to Mbeumo, Manchester United also invested heavily in a new striker, signing Slovenia international Benjamin Sesko. They paid RB Leipzig £74m, including add-ons, for the highly-rated 22-year-old.
After scoring 18 Bundesliga goals last season, Sesko joins on a long-term contract. The club highlighted his “huge potential” and unique physical attributes upon completing the signing.
Liverpool also completed an aggressive summer of spending, landing French forward Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt. The deal for the 23-year-old is worth up to £79m with add-ons.
Ekitike impressed with 16 goals in Germany last term. Now he joins the reigning champions on a six-year contract, adding crucial depth to Arne Slot’s formidable attack.
Liverpool’s first big splash in the market came in midfield with the blockbuster signing of Florian Wirtz. The German playmaker arrived from Bayer Leverkusen for a staggering £100m, which could rise to £116.5m if add-ons are met.
Wirtz joins the Reds following a stellar campaign in which he recorded an incredible 18 goals and 20 assists. The club praised his “world-class creativity,” and he is expected to form a thrilling creative partnership with Mohamed Salah this season.
The jewel in the crown of Liverpool’s spending spree was also the window’s biggest deal. Alexander Isak’s British-record £125m move from Newcastle was finalised on Deadline Day, ending a protracted transfer saga.
The Swedish striker arrives after bagging an impressive 25 Premier League goals last season. He has signed a six-year contract to spearhead the Reds’ title defence, with manager Arne Slot immediately praising his “clinical finishing.”
