Thomas Tuchel has named his England squad for the UEFA Nations League, recalling Trent Alexander-Arnold and Cole Palmer after sparkling club starts.

Goal.com reports that both watched the World Cup from home after being overlooked. Palmer missed out following a groin injury during a campaign that ended with Chelsea 10th, while Alexander-Arnold had not played for England since June 2025.

Tuchel said their early 2026-27 form made the case, pointing to Palmer’s four goals in six for Chelsea and Alexander-Arnold’s tactical versatility at Real Madrid.

He plans to use Alexander-Arnold at right-back and noted the defender has started well in two roles for Real. Competition on the right remains fierce, so the former Liverpool man must impress in camp.

The manager insisted neither player did anything wrong previously, explaining selection simply favoured others and injuries now affect certain positions. He stood by the summer call but said it is time for Alexander-Arnold to fight for his place.

England host world champions Spain on Saturday 26 September, then visit Czechia three days later. They travel to Croatia on 3 October before the home return against Czechia on 6 October.
