Santos are in a last-minute push to bring back Lucas Veríssimo, with less than 24 hours left before the transfer window shuts on Tuesday.
According to Globo.com, the club have lodged a permanent bid with Al-Duhail to buy up to 70 percent of the defender’s economic rights for up to R$ 25 million, while he remains on loan at Al-Wakrah.
The initial plan was a loan, but even the player showed little enthusiasm for a temporary move. His family favour a definitive return to Brazil amid regional tension linked to conflict in the Middle East. Since the weekend, attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran have left the country on alert and football there is suspended.
Even if a move is close, Veríssimo’s camp accept expectations must be managed because the document exchange may not be quick enough. With Qatar six hours ahead, there is a significant risk the registration will not be finalised before the deadline.
There is currently no indication of a special FIFA window for countries affected by war that would extend the timeframe. Veríssimo, 30, won the 2016 Paulistão and was a 2020 Conmebol Libertadores runner-up with Santos.
