Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer is close to joining West Bromwich Albion, with Ben Jacobs reporting that negotiations between the clubs have reached an advanced stage.
Hull City had also considered a move for the youngster, but West Brom are now said to be his likelier destination.
The development places the Baggies in pole position as United continue working to determine Collyer’s immediate future before the transfer window closes.
Jacobs wrote: “Toby Collyer is close to joining West Brom. Advanced talks ongoing with Manchester United.”
The journalist added that Hull had contemplated entering the race, although West Brom’s pursuit has apparently gathered greater momentum.
That represents a notable shift after earlier reports concerning Hull’s interest suggested the Tigers were emerging as serious contenders for his signature.
There is no indication yet that a final agreement has been reached. Advanced talks are encouraging for West Brom, but the remaining details must still be settled before Collyer can formally make the move.
Jacobs did not disclose whether the proposed switch would be a permanent transfer or a loan, but previous reports suggest it will be permanent. No potential fee, add-ons or future clauses were mentioned either.
Previous coverage of Collyer’s future has included speculation surrounding Hull and Premier League suitors in general, alongside debate over whether leaving United would be the right step for his development.
A move to West Brom could offer a clearer route to regular first-team football.
Overall credibility: 9/10
✅ Jacobs is normally a fairly reliable journalist
✅ The Baggies have been linked for some time
It appears to be true that the Hull City links were premature and that West Brom are closing in on a deal.
