João Palhinha’s potential departure has increasingly turned into a daily soap opera this summer. Now, following a new development, things finally seem to be clear.
At first, Bayern hoped that Tottenham would sign him permanently. Then other clubs showed interest once it became clear that the Spurs were focusing on other players.
Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Sporting CP, AC Milan, and Juventus: All of these clubs were at one point linked to the player and showed varying degrees of interest. Most recently, Benfica entered the fray but was unable to offer what the record champions had in mind.
Until the very end. Bayern slightly adjusted its demands to accommodate the Portuguese club, which then reached an agreement with Palhinha.
Most recently, the Portuguese midfielder traveled to his home country, reportedly to undergo a medical exam. But it quickly became clear that there are still key details to be worked out between Bayern and the Portuguese club.
Palhinha himself emphasized that he was in Portugal for family reasons. There was speculation that the player might even have to fly back to Germany if a full agreement isn’t reached soon. But FC Bayern has now allowed the Portuguese player to remain in Portugal because it really is just a matter of ironing out the final minor details, and the clubs have reached an agreement on the previously mentioned differences.

According to Sapo, an announcement confirming the deal is expected shortly. The issues that could have still prevented a permanent transfer have been resolved.
Bayern will receive a transfer fee in the range of 14–15 million euros and could subsequently earn up to an additional five million euros in bonus payments.
