UWCL round-up: Chelsea and Barcelona dominate, OH Leuven claim historic win

On Tuesday, the most prestigious club competition in Europe continued. There were five games played in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, with a comfortable win in London for Chelsea and an historic win for OH Leuven.
We’ve rounded up the day’s UWCL results below.
Chelsea hosted Paris FC in their lates UWCL clash and they started in an even strength situation. For the first half hour, the teams were evenly matched, but Chelsea were awarded a penalty after 30 minutes. Sandy Baltimore didn’t fail in front of the goalkeeper and scored the opening goal. Shortly after, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd made it 2-0 after an assist by Alyssa Thompson.
It was that same Thompson who scored Chelsea’s third after the break, this time assisted by Keira Walsh. At this time, it was evident that Chelsea were heading for the three points in Europe.
If there were any doubts, they were dealt with in the 63rd minute. Sam Kerr was subbed in not eight minutes earlier and rewarded her cameo with the fourth goal of the match.
In this battle of the Low Countries, OH Leuven entertained Twente in their UWCL clash. Twente had most of the possession of the ball and opened the scoring in the 39th minute, just before the break. Jaimy Ravensberg scored after an assist by Alieke Tuin.
In the second half, Leuven took the initiative and made sure they substituted enough new blood into the team. This resulted in a scored penalty in the 82nd minute, by Linde Veefkind to make it 1-1. This already looked like a good result for the home side, but something changed in the momentum.
Leuven grew in confidence and Twente made silly mistakes. Twente capitalise with a stoppage time winner, courtesy of Zenia Martens after a well played pass by Flo Hermans.
All the action unfolded in the second half between these two sides, with Lineth Beerensteyn providing the opener for VfL Wolfsburg in the 57th minute. Norwegian side Vålerenga levelled the scoreline just minutes later through defender Sara Hørte.
However, two-time European champions Wolfsburg snatched all three points from the Norwegians in the dying embers of the match. After a lengthy VAR review deep into injury time, the She-wolves were awarded a penalty. Janina Minge stepped up to take the spot-kick and converted the attempt in the eighth minute of stoppage time to claim the win.
European powerhouses OL Lyonnes cruised to a 3-0 win over St. Pölten in their latest outing. The record title holders will be pushing to add another trophy to their impressive cabinet and snag their first Champions League win since 2022.
The French giants registered a mammoth 46 shots and 15 on target as they dominated with 78 percent possession. Their first goal came courtesy Jule Brand before Ada Hegerberg extended the lead. Lily Yohannes made it three shortly after the break to hammer the final nail into the coffin.
Three-time champions Barcelona needed just two minutes to take the lead over Roma. Esmee Brugts was first on the scoresheet but Barca needed to wait until the second half to add to her tally.
After a goal from Kika Nazareth to double the scoreline just before the hour mark, Alexia Putellas dispatched a penalty to put the game out of reach. Caroline Graham Hansen netted Barcelona’s fourth to secure the win exactly on the 90th minute mark.
