Valencia confirm Pablo Maffeo on season-long loan with option to buy | OneFootball

Valencia have announced the arrival of Pablo Maffeo to bolster right-back, after teasing the move with a bat on social media.

The club said in a statement that the Catalan joins from Olympiacos on a season-long loan, with an option to buy for more than three million euros that would secure him for two additional seasons.

Maffeo landed at Manises in the early hours of Wednesday, offered brief comments to the media, then on Thursday passed his medical and completed a first session at the Paterna training ground after signing.

He described playing for Valencia as a dream and aims to earn a place next season so the option is taken up, stressing his motivation to compete for the club in every game, Madrid included.

Born in Sant Joan Despí on 12 July 1997, the 29-year-old has made 294 senior appearances. He came through Espanyol, joined Manchester City at 15 and debuted for their first team in 2016.

His career has taken in VfB Stuttgart, SD Huesca, RCD Mallorca and Olympiacos, joining the Greek club this summer. Internationally, he featured across Spain’s youth sides and in 2023 was called up by Argentina for qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil without debuting.
