Valencia talks for Kayne Van Oevelen slowed by right-back scramble

Valencia’s scramble for a new right-back is slowing progress in talks for FC Volendam goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen, though negotiations remain active and player terms for a five-season stay are understood to be in place.

The club lost Thomas Meunier and Andrés García in quick succession, forcing an immediate rethink of budgets and priorities. Voetbal International reports that van Oevelen sat out Volendam’s friendly against Almere City on Tuesday to avoid injury before a possible transfer.

Talks began before the right-back setback, with Volendam seeking between two and three million euros. The figure is slightly above Valencia’s plan for a back-up keeper, which was capped at two million.

A permanent outlay at right-back could limit other moves, so free agents remain high on the list. Even so, the goalkeeper remains keen on La Liga and Volendam aim to cash in this summer.

The live negotiation may need to accelerate to ward off Premier League interest from Leeds United and Ipswich Town. Feyenoord had considered him, but with the player preferring Valencia they have instead moved for the German Ernst from Hertha.
