Barcelona are gearing up for an important 2026. This is the year the club would hope to leverage the full potential of the revamped Camp Nou, build out a championship-winning squad and most importantly, elect a new president.
Joan Laporta remains the favourite to retain his role as the President of FC Barcelona. However, he has been facing stiff competition from Victor Font, with the job being made difficult by the potential involvement of Lionel Messi.
In a latest development, it appears the rivalry between Font and Laporta has deepened, with the former accusing the Barcelona president of using the club’s resources for his own political gain, reports MARCA.
The controversy surrounds an event Laporta scheduled for next Wednesday to meet with club members. The event will feature the club mascot, Cat, and the trophies from the club’s recent victories, which attendees can pose with for photos.

Font immediately took to social media, arguing that the mascot and trophies belong solely to the club, not to President Laporta’s political faction. He stressed that using these assets ahead of an election constitutes a serious breach of protocol.
Font did not mince words, stating the action constituted a serious breach of protocol. “Campaigning with club resources constitutes a conflict of interest and, very likely, an illegal act,” he wrote.
The accusation comes just before Font himself is scheduled to host an event this Monday, bringing together club members.
In a sarcastic response to Laporta’s actions, Font publicly demanded equal access to the assets.
He said, “We should ask the club to lend us the mascot CAT and the trophies from last season’s titles for the event we have this Monday.”
