Wales hit by triple withdrawal before Nations League A opener | OneFootball

Wales have been dealt a triple setback ahead of their Nations League A campaign, with Harry Wilson, Nathan Broadhead and Karl Darlow withdrawing from Craig Bellamy's squad.

According to BBC UK, Leeds attacking midfielder Wilson had been a doubt with a quad problem, while Wrexham forward Broadhead was expected to miss out because of a thigh issue. First-choice goalkeeper Darlow has also pulled out despite making his Manchester United debut in the EFL Cup last week and being on the bench for the Premier League draw with Fulham on Sunday.

Veteran Leicester City keeper David Cornell and Huddersfield Town forward Joe Taylor, both uncapped, have been called up, along with Reading midfielder Charlie Savage.

Bellamy’s side begin against Portugal in Lisbon, then travel to Denmark next Sunday. They then host Norway in Cardiff on Thursday, 1 October, before the Danes visit the Welsh capital three days later.

Portugal v Wales in Group A4 is scheduled for 19:45 BST on Thursday, 24 September at Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon.

Taylor, a former Wales Under-21, has scored five goals for Huddersfield this season. The Peterborough-born 23-year-old impressed on loan at Wigan in the second half of last season after spells at Lincoln City and Colchester United.

Savage, the son of former Wales midfielder Robbie, is a regular at Reading and has made more than 150 appearances since joining from Manchester United in 2023.
