Wassa Sangaré has extended her OL Lyonnes contract to 2029, the club announced on Thursday, following a productive loan at London City Lionesses and an eye-catching pre-season.
The 20-year-old defender had been tied to Lyon until 2027, and her new deal now runs to 2029. It follows Julie Swierot’s extension with OL Lyonnes to the same date after her own successful loan.
Lyon’s late August decision not to release both players for the U20 World Cup was an early sign the staff counted on them for this season’s rotation with some importance. That is now clear.
For Sangaré, a season in England, where the game is particularly direct and physical, appears to have lifted her level. She made 14 appearances for London City Lionesses.
She then underlined that progress in pre-season, looking solid and incisive against opposing forwards, and adept at defending the space in behind.
