Wendie Renard was named among the 30 candidates for the 2026 Ballon d’Or on Tuesday, her sixth career nomination. Soon after, she used an Instagram Story to aim a dig at the French Football Federation, FFF, after the France women’s account on X congratulated only Selma Bacha and Melvine Malard.
Absent from that message, the Lyon defender reshared Eugénie Le Sommer’s post, which suggested some had forgotten to congratulate her.
The player said in a post that years spent in the France shirt no longer seemed enough to be considered French when the congratulations arrived, and she added she was proud of a sixth nomination.
Renard, 36, is the former France captain and has 168 caps.
She has not been selected for the national team since 25 February 2025.
