After their last El Clasico win, FC Barcelona had another rival waiting in line to take on them as they faced their neighbours RCD Espanyol in last night’s league encounter. The Blaugranes once again emerged victorious, as they beat their cross-town rivals 0-2, and also won the La Liga title with this win.

Thus, this was definitely a night to remember for all the Barcelona players, as their efforts from throughout the season were rewarded with the league win.

However, the midfielder Fermin Lopez would go on to remember this win with greater delight as he was able to get over the heartbreak of seeing his goal disallowed in the game against Real Madrid by scoring a goal in the very final minutes in the match against Espanyol.

Fermin Lopez talks La Liga win and his goal

As Mundo Deportivo, the La Masia graduate himself recognised this as he talked to the media after the game. The midfielder expressed his happiness on the team’s win and talked about his goal:

“We achieved the goal, we worked hard to get here and I think we deserved it. Today makes up for the goal that was disallowed against Madrid.”

The Spaniard also talked about Hansi Flick and his family:

“He hasn’t had time to speak yet, we’re celebrating. He guided us all the way and now it’s time to enjoy. I think of my family, my girlfriend, and everyone who was with me. It was a dream I had and I’m very happy.”

Celebrations

Fermin also opened up on the team not celebrating the league win on the pitch:

“Well, in the end I understand what happened last time, but I think we’re not hurting anyone. We’re not being disrespectful, we won our league and we’ve celebrated very little.”

However, he ensured the team would go on to celebrate this achievement:

“Absolutely sure we’re going to celebrate it. There’s no fatigue.”

Although not a starter, Fermin Lopez has still been an important player for Hansi Flick and has made notable contributions in this La Liga win. Hopefully, he will be rewarded for his services in the next season, and he will continue performing at the level he has shown this season.
