According to spl.com.sa, Abha have signed Belgian forward Michy Batshuayi on a free transfer. The newly promoted side add a comic book devotee who could bring goals, personality and box-office moments to the Roshn Saudi League.
The 32-year-old has shone when backed, hitting nine in 14 at Borussia Dortmund, 33 in 78 for Marseille and 44 in 75 at Fenerbahce. He has often said he thrives on trust and security, a theme he revisited at Galatasaray in 2024.
A self-confessed superhero fan, he served as a Marvel ambassador in 2018 and embraced his Batsman persona at Dortmund, complete with Batman-mask celebrations. After more than a year off X, he joked about rediscovering his password when the Abha move was unveiled.
Abha have highlighted his efficiency, and the numbers back it up. In Chelsea’s 2016-17 title season he averaged 29 touches per Premier League goal, a mark that stood until 2022, underlining his penalty-area edge.
Fresh from Eintracht Frankfurt, he has described himself as a leader who looks to motivate younger players. His CV spans the Premier League, UEFA Champions League and the FIFA World Cup with Belgium.
Abha, adjusting to top-flight demands after an opening home defeat to Al Hazem, may need to be ruthless. With Nabil Fekir, who debuted in that game, among the summer arrivals, Batshuayi’s experience and instinct could be timely.
