Spain won the women’s Nations League yet again this year and it was teenage sensation Vicky Lopez once again leading her nation.
The 19-year-old seems to have come out of nowhere but she is already dominating the world stage.
After 135 minutes without a goal between Germany and Spain, the Nations League final burst into life in the second half.
Claudia Pina netted a quick brace to put Spain out of sight but it was a Vicky Lopez stunner that had fans off their seats.
Lopez cut past two defenders on the edge of the box before driving a beautiful finish into the corner to all-but secure Spain’s second consecutive Nations League title.
Spain did in fact go on to lift the trophy once again, maintaining their 100% success rate in the competition.
As with most of Spain’s talented stars, Vicky Lopez plays for Barcelona.
The forward came through Real Madrid’s academy before signing a five-year contract with Barcelona in 2022.
With Barcelona Lopez initially played for the B team but it was clear to see from an early stage that she was destined for greatness.
After two impressive years in Spain’s first division, Lopez really burst into life in 2024/25.
Last year the teenager made 37 appearances for Barca. Lopez played a key role in her club’s domestic success and earned her first international call-up to the Spain squad.
This year Lopez has continued on her upward curve and she collected the awards to show for it.
It was at Euro 2025 with Spain that she really caught the international eye.
Lopez became the youngest-ever Spaniard to score in the tournament at just 18 years and 342 days.
Despite her age, the Barcelona talent has quickly established herself as one of Europe’s biggest superstars.
Although she lost out to Michelle Agyemang for the Euro 2025 Young Player of the Tournament, Lopez was rewarded with an even bigger prize later this year.
Spain’s forward was named the first-ever Kopa Trophy winner at the 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony.
Despite such a good year it seems Lopez will only go up from here and the sky is the limit for a player who could go down as one of the game’s greats.
