Wolves prospect Leon Chiwome joins Colchester on season-long loan | OneFootball

Young Wolves striker Leon Chiwome has joined League Two Colchester United on a season-long loan.

The 20-year-old progressed through Wolves’ academy after arriving four years ago, earning an FA Cup debut in 2024 and three Premier League outings. Wolves technical director Matt Jackson said the switch is aimed at restoring his fitness and performance after a serious knee injury.

The forward suffered that setback shortly after his first-team breakthrough, but featured in Cesar Peixoto’s pre-season group this summer.

Jackson likened the plan to Sasa going to Austria, and described Chiwome as level-headed and well educated, deserving better luck. He also highlighted the striker’s power and pace, adding that with careful nurturing he could be a real asset for Wolves.

He expressed confidence in Colchester’s project under the Cowley brothers, noting their recent record developing young loanees. Jackson believes strong game exposure could help Chiwome return to the level Wolves felt he was reaching a couple of years ago.
