Wolves are assessing a summer move for experienced right-back James Tavernier, who will leave Rangers at the end of the season after 11 years.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, he is among several options being considered to strengthen the squad for next season.

Rob Edwards has committed to major squad changes with relegation already confirmed, and Tavernier is viewed as a possible addition.

Tavernier, 34, has captained Rangers for eight years since joining in 2015, winning the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup and League Cup, and he led them to the 2022 Europa League final, lost on penalties to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Known for his goals from full-back, he has 144 goals in 563 Rangers appearances. In a social media message, he called the decision to leave difficult, said wearing the armband since 2018 made him immensely proud, and stressed he remains focused on finishing the season and the title race before seeking a new challenge.

Wolves are also keen on fellow free agent Dan Neil, who will leave Sunderland this summer after a loan at Ipswich. The 24-year-old captained Sunderland to promotion from the Championship and could bolster midfield, with Andre and Joao Gomes likely to be sold.

Meanwhile, the club are monitoring Torino winger Alieu Njie. The 20-year-old has one goal and one assist in 11 Serie A games this season with only one start, and since debuting in 2024 has made 31 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice and assisting once.
