Yannick Cahuzac is expected to return to RC Lens this summer to join Pierre Sage’s staff, according to L'Équipe.
The former Lens and Toulouse midfielder is currently assistant to Olivier Pantaloni at Lorient. He arrived in January 2024 as assistant to Régis Le Bris and has been valued as an effective deputy under both coaches.
Six months earlier he had been lined up to assist Francesco Farioli at OGC Nice, but the move was abandoned after pressure from Nice ultras over his Bastia past.
Lens had already tried to bring him back after his year as Franck Haise’s assistant in 2022-2023, which followed his playing retirement. In June last year the club negotiated with Lorient to buy out the final year of his deal, but the offer was rejected.
Seeking a club-oriented assistant to support the Sage-Alioui duo, Lens instead appointed Bilal Hamdi, yet kept contact with Cahuzac, whose contract ends on 30 June. Nothing would now stand in the way of a return, when he would take an assistant role and reunite with his Corsican friend, sporting director Jean-Louis Leca. That outcome is the preference of both the hierarchy and Cahuzac.
