Youssouf Fofana has joined Sevilla on loan with no option to buy after his proposed switch to Lyon collapsed. The 27-year-old France midfielder has 25 caps and three goals.

According to L'Équipe, he was bound for OL on Tuesday evening, only for the deal to be scrapped when Nicolas Tagliafico’s move to Atlético Madrid was abandoned.

Placed in a 'loft' at AC Milan, Fofana then had to find a destination at short notice and sealed a move to the Andalusian club.

Sevilla sit sixth in La Liga. They lost 1-3 at home to Atlético Madrid last weekend after winning their first two matches.

The club are targeting a return to Europe after four seasons in the bottom half. Their last two campaigns brought 17th then 13th, each involving a late fight to stay up.
