Yuri Alberto to miss Corinthians’ Libertadores quarter-final first leg at Estudiantes | OneFootball

Corinthians will be without striker Yuri Alberto for the first leg of the Libertadores quarter-finals away to Estudiantes on Wednesday at 21:30 at Estadio Jorge Luis Hirschi in La Plata.

According to Meu Timao, he will not travel to Argentina after a setback in his right hamstring last week, and there is currently no timeline to rejoin the squad. He will stay in São Paulo to continue rehab at CT Dr. Joaquim Grava.

He has not played since 30 July, when he sustained a grade 2 injury during a 0-0 draw with Athletico-PR at Casa do Povo in the Brasileirão. Brought on at half-time, he lasted about 30 minutes, then asked to come off and left the pitch in tears, missing nine games since.

He had progressed into on-pitch transition, but on 27 August discomfort returned and the grass work stopped. A swift recovery had raised hopes of a comeback against Santos on 30 August, however the new problem kept him out.

The renewed pain arrived four weeks into treatment. The initial estimate was six to eight weeks, yet his rapid progress had put him roughly two weeks ahead of the usual schedule before the setback.

Without Alberto, Fernando Diniz can call on Memphis Depay, Kaio César, Gui Negão, Jesse Lingard, Dieguinho and Pedro Raul in attack. Despite his absence since late July, he is still Corinthians’ leading scorer this season with eight in 33, two ahead of Gustavo Henrique.
