Following confirmation on Thursday, full-back Isaac Schmidt joined BSC Young Boys on a four-year contract, and his emotional farewell drew a response from Anton Stach.
The move ends his two-year stay at Elland Road. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the fee was undisclosed, but Leeds are understood to have received £2m, enough to avoid any book loss.
Schmidt made 14 appearances in the 2024/25 Championship title-winning season, including two FA Cup starts. All 12 of his league outings were from the bench, and last summer he joined Werder Bremen on loan with Premier League minutes looking minimal.
He was at Elland Road when automatic promotion was sealed and later joined Daniel Farke’s squad for an open-top bus parade through the city centre.
On Instagram, alongside a parade photo, Schmidt said he would never forget the pure emotions shared with team-mates and staff, praised the fans and wished the club well, signing off with MOT.
Messages quickly followed, including from Largie Ramazani, Willy Gnonto, Anton Stach and Joel Piroe. Stach linked up with him only in pre-season. Illan Meslier and Mateo Joseph also commented, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Harry Gray liked the post.
Schmidt will now link up with Young Boys for pre-season. His exit was Leeds’ fourth of the summer, after free agents Karl Darlow and Meslier left and Pascal Struijk joined Brighton for £20m. One signing, Harry Wilson, is confirmed, with centre-back Tarik Muharemovic expected to follow.
