Isaac Schmidt has left Leeds United for BSC Young Boys on a four-year deal, posting an emotional goodbye to supporters and team-mates.

The fee was undisclosed, though yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk understands Leeds received £2 million, enough to avoid any book value loss. The move ends the full-back’s two-year stay, confirmed on Thursday.

Schmidt made 14 appearances during the 2024/25 Championship title-winning season, including two FA Cup starts, with his 12 league outings all from the bench. After promotion, the 26-year-old spent last summer on loan at Werder Bremen with Premier League opportunities seen as minimal.

He was at Elland Road when automatic promotion was sealed and joined the open-top bus parade through the city centre. In his Instagram message he said he would never forget the pure emotions shared, praised the team spirit and the fans, wished the club well for the future and signed off with MOT.

Well-wishes arrived from former colleagues, with messages from Largie Ramazani, Willy Gnonto, Anton Stach and Joel Piroe. Stach did not feature competitively alongside Schmidt, although the pair played together in pre-season. Illan Meslier and Mateo Joseph also commented, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Harry Gray liked the post.

Schmidt will now link up with Young Boys for pre-season. He is Leeds’ fourth summer departure after free agents Karl Darlow and Meslier, plus Pascal Struijk’s £20m move to Brighton. One signing, Harry Wilson, is confirmed, with centre-back Tarik Muharemovic expected to follow.
