Benfica have blocked Académico de Viseu’s loan move for 19-year-old goalkeeper Diogo Ferreira.
Record writes that the club sees staying as best for his development, with Ferreira set to train with the first team in pre-season and play mainly for the B team.
Pre-season began with four goalkeepers under Marco Silva, Anatoliy Trubin, Samuel Soares, André Gomes and Ferreira. Only three are expected to remain, so a departure could follow before the window closes.
André Gomes returns after a standout year as Alverca’s starter and wants regular minutes. Samuel Soares enters the final year of his contract and is open to more game time, while he retains the coaching staff’s confidence.
Trubin’s future remains open. The Ukrainian international is among Benfica’s most valued assets and, if an irresistible offer arrives, the club would consider a transfer. In this context, Rui Costa’s hierarchy have kept Ferreira in place and postponed a definitive call.
