Grêmio have settled their debt with Granada and are now awaiting administrative steps at Fifa for their transfer ban, imposed in November, to be removed.

According to Globo.com, the club paid around R$ seven million in recent days and are waiting for records to be processed in Fifa’s system, after which they can register new players and head coach Luís Castro.

The obligation related to the 2024 signing of Arezo. The Uruguayan striker cost € three million, R$ 17 million at the time, of which R$ 10 million had already been paid.

Other liabilities could see Grêmio fall back under a transfer ban. One also concerns Arezo, with River Plate-URU having taken the case to Fifa over €150,000 not received from the player’s loan to Peñarol this year.

Separately, the club are defending at Fifa against an accusation of tapping up midfielder Camilo, who joined on a free at the start of this season. Ahmat Grozny claims the player was not free on the market, which could require a payment from Grêmio.
