Lazio stars Mario Gila and Toma Basic are expected to be ready for next Wednesday’s Coppa Italia tie against Atalanta.
The Croatian midfielder has been out of action since picking up an adductor injury at the Allianz Stadium against Juventus earlier this month. For his part, the Spanish defender hurt his knee during the defeat to Atalanta 10 days ago.
According to La Lazio Siamo Noi, Maurizio Sarri’s men resumed training on Tuesday, but neither Gila nor Basic was part of the group. The Aquile will begin their preparations for Sunday’s clash against Torino with a double training session on Wednesday, followed by afternoon sessions on Thursday and Friday, and finally a Saturday morning training at Formello before travelling to Turin.
It remains to be seen if Gila and Basic will be fit enough to join their teammates on the training field in the coming days. At this stage, neither player is expected to challenge for a starting spot against Torino on Sunday. Nevertheless, this isn’t an issue for Sarri, as the club has already given up on challenging for the league’s European spots, instead betting the entire campaign on the Coppa Italia.
The source believes the two players have a good chance of recovering for the first leg of the semi-final against Atalanta, which will take place at the Stadio Olimpico on March 4. On the other hand, Pedro and Manuel Lazzari remain on the sidelines, while Nicolo Rovella underwent surgery to repair his fractured collarbone on Monday and will be out of action for several months.
