Luís Hemir Semedo has hit a bump in his Moreirense loan, the Sunderland striker left on the bench for the 3-1 defeat at FC Porto following what his manager called a disciplinary issue.

A Bola reports that the decision was not purely tactical. It followed behaviour before the trip to the Estádio do Dragão that the club considered inappropriate, though not severe enough to exclude him from the squad.

The 22-year-old had shown signs of progress earlier this month, scoring against Nacional in the Primeira Liga. He then remained unused in Porto, and notably did not join the warm-up.

Head coach Vasco Botelho said the call was made with Semedo’s development in mind. He said he has known the forward since childhood, cares for him, but the group must come before the individual and difficult decisions can aid growth.

Hemir joined Moreirense on loan last August and is under contract at Sunderland until June 2028. The move aimed to secure regular senior football after a mixed stint with Juventus Next Gen, where his minutes were limited.

Across 15 league appearances he has two goals and one assist in 717 minutes. His next opportunity could come when Moreirense visit Arouca on Saturday, with injuries offering a route back as he competes for a starting place.
