Sunderland loanee Luís Hemir was left on the bench for Moreirense after a disciplinary issue, a setback amid tentative progress in Portugal.
The 22-year-old had scored against Nacional earlier this month in the Primeira Liga, but did not feature in the recent 3-1 defeat at FC Porto, remaining on the bench and not taking part in the warm-up. A Bola reports that the decision was not purely tactical and followed behaviour before the trip that the club deemed inappropriate.
Head coach Vasco Botelho framed the call as being for the forward’s development. He has known Semedo since he was seven and emphasised that the group comes before any individual, with tough choices sometimes needed to help players grow.
Hemir joined Moreirense on loan in August and is contracted to Sunderland until June 2028. The move aimed to secure regular senior minutes after a mixed spell with Juventus Next Gen, where his game time was limited.
Across 15 league appearances he has two goals and one assist in 717 minutes. His next chance could come at Arouca on Saturday, with injuries offering a route back into the side if he responds positively.
