Sunderland loanee Luís Hemir Semedo suffered a setback at Moreirense, remaining unused in the 3-1 defeat at FC Porto after what head coach Vasco Botelho regarded as a disciplinary matter.
A Bola reports the decision was not purely tactical and followed behaviour before the trip to the Estádio do Dragão that the club considered inappropriate. It was not deemed serious enough to remove him from the squad, but a consequence was applied.
The 22-year-old had shown tentative progress earlier this month by scoring against Nacional in the Primeira Liga. In Porto, he did not take part in the warm-up and stayed with the substitutes.
Botelho said the call was made for the player’s development, noting he has known Semedo since childhood and holds him in high regard. He stressed the group comes before the individual and that growth can require difficult choices.
Hemir joined Moreirense on loan in August and remains under contract with Sunderland until June 2028. The move was intended to secure regular senior football after a mixed spell last season with Juventus Next Gen, when his minutes were limited.
He has two goals and one assist from 15 league appearances, totalling 717 minutes. His next chance could come when Moreirense face Arouca on Saturday, with injuries offering a route back if he responds positively.
