Ralf Rangnick: Former Man United manager suffers health setback | OneFootball

Former Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick remains in hospital after further health complications.

United stint

The German coach joined United in 2021 after the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Rangnick joined the club as a caretaker manager until the end of the season and planned to join the club in a consultancy role.

The team struggled immensely under the German manager and after a 0-4 defeat to Liverpool in April 2022, he claimed that United needed open heart surgery.

He finally left in the summer when Erik ten Hag was appointed but it was decided that he would not take on the planned consultancy role either and there was a complete separation of ways.

Success with Austria

The 67-year-old has since taken the job as Austrian national team coach and they successfully qualified for Euro 2024.

They even won their group but fell at the second round phase in a 1-2 defeat to Turkey.

Health problems

The Daily Mail reports “the Austria manager initially had a routine operation on his right ankle for wear and tear in June, before being rushed in for another surgery in July after suffering complications.”

He had to have surgery again last week and is still in hospital after picking up an infection.

According to the paper, “he still requires further treatment by an ankle specialist, Johannes Gabel.”

Rangnick hit the headlines earlier this month during Austria’s match with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Owing to his lack of mobility, he scooted across the pitch to conduct post-match interviews on a bike to allow him to move more freely.

Rangnick has pulled out of the squad announcement for the October internationals but it is assumed he will be in the dugout as normal when Austria take on San Marino and Romania next month.
