Prospective Leeds United arrivals will have their pick of several vacant squad numbers this summer.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Harry Wilson is expected to join Daniel Farke’s squad as a free agent after a deal was agreed for the former Fulham winger, who had 10 goals and seven assists last season. Leeds are also pursuing Shea Charles with bids north of £20million, while hope remains they can persuade free agent Julian Brandt. Wilson wore No. eight at Craven Cottage, but that number belongs to Sean Longstaff at Leeds.
No. five is newly vacant after Pascal Struijk’s £20m switch to Brighton. He had worn it for two years. No. twelve went to loan signing Jaidon Anthony in 2023/24 and has gone unclaimed for two years since, with past holders ranging from Gordon Strachan to Paul Rachubka.
No. thirteen is typically a back-up goalkeeper’s shirt, though neither Karl Darlow nor Alex Cairns chose it. Kristoffer Klaesson vacated it in 2024, and Kiko Casilla has worn it previously. No. sixteen is free after Illan Meslier’s contract expired, with past wearers including Yosuke Ideguchi and Toumani Diagouraga.
No. seventeen was Largie Ramazani’s in 2024/25 but is available following his summer loan to Valencia. He could reclaim it if he stays, although that does not feel likely, and past holders include Helder Costa and Alan Smith. No. 20 was on Jack Harrison’s back for the first half of last season before his January loan to Fiorentina, so it should remain available if he is not around next season.
