Neymar’s recall, the Santos forward returning to Brazil’s World Cup squad, has thrilled supporters, but Carlo Ancelotti has left out several big names, according to L'Équipe. Thiago Silva, Joao Pedro and Andrey Santos are among the notable omissions.

Ancelotti’s selections were uncompromising, including the omission of Joao Pedro. The Chelsea striker, 24, recorded 15 goals and 8 assists in 34 Premier League matches, figures considered insufficient beside Neymar’s experience with the Seleção.

Midfielder Andrey Santos, Joao Pedro’s team-mate at Chelsea, has also been left out.

Centre-back Thiago Silva was on the preliminary list but will not travel. His return to Europe with FC Porto in the winter window had revived talk of a last World Cup at 41, yet he has not been called since Qatar 2022.

Eder Militao is absent due to a left thigh injury. Rodrygo and Estêvão are also unavailable.
