Lazio captain Mattia Zaccagni is expected to miss around a month after tests at the Villa Mafalda clinic revealed a medium-grade lesion to his oblique muscle in the abdomen.
According to Sky Sport Italia, this type of injury should sideline him for at least four weeks.
He was only on the bench for last night’s 3-2 win over Genoa at the Stadio Olimpico, a decision now explained by the diagnosis.
The setback hits both Lazio and Italy. Zaccagni has four goals and one assist in 20 appearances this season across Serie A and the Coppa Italia.
Lazio remain without Gil Patric and Samuel Gigot, though January signings Kenneth Taylor, Daniel Maldini, Petar Ratkov and Adrian Przyborek have joined the squad.
