Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef says the team will work on finding their goal-scoring boots during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco later this month.

The Soweto giants had an impressive start to the 2025/26 campaign, but have somewhat become victims of their lack of killer instinct in front of goal in recent matches.

Chiefs settled for a goalless draw against Chippa United and TS Galaxy, respectively in their last two outings, and the Tunisian mentor has attributed the results to the persistent lack of goals.

“I think both games we said the same thing, the most important thing is the performance of the team. We dominated these two games, we created a lot of opportunities [but] we have the same problem in the last third,” lamented Ben Youssef.

"We create a lot of opportunities but we are unlucky not to score. Now, we have this [AFCON] break to fix this problem and to think forward how we can continue.

In addition to the goal-scoring woes, Ben Youssef admitted the team is increasingly getting frustrated with dropping points while their rivals keep climbing on the log standings.

“We are so happy about the performance of the team in the last few games. I think the team performed very well but all of us are frustrated about missing points because we are not scoring the opportunities we get,” he added.

"We have to continue to work, we have to fix this problem. I think the most important thing is the performance of the team, the team is performing well, we don't have to be scared about the team - when the team is not performing well, that's a very big problem for us.

Chiefs sit fourth on the Betway Premiership table, with 24 points from 13 league outings and they trail bitter rivals and log leaders Orlando Pirates with four points, having played one game more.
