Amine Gouiri sustains injury with Algeria and returns to Marseille | OneFootball

Amine Gouiri (26) sustained an injury while away with the Algeria national team and has subsequently returned to Marseille, as confirmed in a statement from the Algerian federation.

Gouiri was forced off early on in Algeria’s 3-1 win over Zambia. Post-match, manager Brahim Hemdani spoke of a quadriceps injury. Following tests on Saturday, it was decided that the former Stade Rennais and OGC Nice forward would be released. He is now once again in the hands of his club, Olympique de Marseille. The gravity of Gouiri’s injury has not yet been revealed.

OM face Troyes on 11th October, before hosting Olympiacos in the UEFA Europa League just four days later. OM will hope to have the Algerian international operational for those fixtures. He has been a rare bright spark in a dire start to the season. Marseille are currently second-from-bottom in Ligue 1.

Les Phocéens have also already lost one player to injury during this international break – Derek Cornelius. The defender sustained a hip injury while training with the Canada national team and is not expected to return until 2027.
